During this school year, the High School Learning Center will be learning the monthly Scripture verses in a topical format. Each student will receive a list of 20 to 24 verses for each month with the assignment listed below.
Here is an example of the method of quoting verses:
“God. Psalm 86:15. But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. Psalm 86:15. ” Note that the reference is repeated before and after the verse.
When more than one verse in a topic is quoted, the title (like “God”) need only be given before the first reference.
Assignments for the 2nd through 6th graders are listed separately beneath assignments for the older students.
Students will quote verses to their supervisor only. Monitors, parents, and student helpers may study with individuals or groups, but only supervisors may approve each monthly assignment.
Each monthly assignment may be completed in two parts, divided any way the student wishes. He may receive two prompts with each part. All assignments are to be completed by the last school day in the month. Only one part may be quoted in any one day. There may be penalties for waiting until the last day, so everyone should quote verses early each month. Remember even excused absences and snow days do not excuse a student from quoting Scripture on time!
Quoting the entire monthly assignment without error or pause greater than 5 seconds during the first 5 school days of the month will earn the student 4 merit points. A written test over each list that has been assigned will be given near the end of each month. Merits will be given for superior scores.
Teens who do exceptionally well in Memory Work will be given the opportunity to join the LCS Bible Memory Team for Student Convention in April. Only six students from our school are permitted to take the written test at Convention.
All students will compete within their Learning Centers for trophies given at Awards Night in June.
